Blacktip Reef Shark (Carcharinus melanopterus);
This Blacktip reef shark as its name suggests has black tips to the fins,
although these may fade with age. There is a white stripe along the side
of its silvery body. It grows to a length of 2.5m (8ft). Ecology: it occurs
in warm waters around the globe. Juveniles may be seen off beaches while
adults are primarily open-water hunters, but sometimes visit reefs when
following prey such as mackerel. |
